Like the previous Carmen Sandiego instructional video, it was mandatory that I receive licensor approval for every step of this project. After my script was approved, I re-hired the motion graphic designer who I’d previously worked with to produce the Oregon Trail videos.
As usual, I provided to him a detailed production brief, completed script and shot list, and all the art assets. The animator used an After Effects plugin called Element to create the stunning 3-D visuals. And because of the level of complexity in both the game play and the video, we worked step-by-step to assure accuracy. Lastly, I hired a voiceover artist and used royalty free music to complete the video. Once I received final approval from the licensor, the how-to-play video was immediately uploaded to YouTube, and has appeared on our website, major retailer product pages, and on social media.
